The audience was treated to vivid historical recreations as performers appeared in magnificent period costumes, transforming the Noh stage into a living Heian picture scroll.
Kaneko captivated audiences in the starring role of Ariwara no Narihira, the celebrated poet and central figure of The Tale of Ise. Opposite her, Futoka Makino portrayed Fujiwara no Takaiko, Narihira’s beloved, delivering a graceful and emotionally resonant performance that beautifully reflected one of classical Japanese literature’s most enduring romances.
