Crowning Confidence: Yaribey Baro on Redefining Beauty, Boldly

In a world where hairstyling can often be seen as a surface-level pursuit, Yaribey Baro brings a much deeper meaning to the craft. Known for her fearless creativity and ability to transform not just appearances but spirits, the Cuban-born stylist has emerged as a leading voice in fashion and beauty, with her recent feature in Grazia Japan serving as yet another milestone in her remarkable career.

We sat down with Yaribey to talk about her roots, her rise, and the deeper mission behind every style she creates.

Q: Yaribey, let’s start at the beginning. What first inspired you to pursue hairstyling professionally?

Yaribey Baro: I was always drawn to beauty as a form of expression. Growing up in Cuba, resources were limited, but creativity wasn’t. I would style friends’ hair with whatever I had. It wasn’t just about looking good—it was about feeling powerful. That feeling stayed with me, and when I moved to the U.S., I knew I wanted to turn that passion into something real.

Q: Fast-forward to today, and you’ve built a brand that resonates across the fashion world. What was the turning point for you?

Yaribey Baro: The turning point came during the pandemic, actually. When everything shut down, many stylists hit pause—but I couldn’t. I took a leap and opened my own studio, Beauty by Color Inc. It was risky, yes, but I felt this urgency to create a space where people could reconnect with themselves, especially during such a vulnerable time. That decision changed everything.

Q: What does Beauty by Color stand for?

Yaribey Baro: It’s more than just a name. To me, “color” represents individuality—your mood, your vibe, your essence. My studio is where people come to celebrate their uniqueness. Whether I’m doing bold color transformations or minimalist cuts, it’s always about bringing out someone’s truth. There’s no one-size-fits-all beauty here.

Q: What sets your approach apart from others in the industry?

Yaribey Baro: I listen. That might sound simple, but it’s everything. I don’t just style hair—I listen to who the person is. Their story, their lifestyle, their energy. My job is to translate that into a look they feel proud of. It’s part technical, part intuitive. That’s why so many of my clients come back—it’s not just a service, it’s a connection.

Q: You’ve built a successful business while also raising a child. How do you manage both worlds?

Yaribey Baro: It’s a constant balancing act, but being a mother gives me strength. My daughter sees me working hard, staying grounded, and building something from scratch. That’s the legacy I want to leave her. You can be ambitious and nurturing. You don’t have to choose.

Q: What’s next for you?

Yaribey Baro: I want to continue growing Beauty by Color as a movement, not just a studio. More education, more mentorship, more visibility for artists from underrepresented backgrounds. And creatively, I’ll keep pushing boundaries. There’s still so much I want to say through my work.

Q: Any final thoughts for aspiring stylists or young creatives looking to follow your path?

Yaribey Baro: Don’t wait for permission. Start where you are, with what you have. Stay consistent, stay kind, and keep showing up. Your voice matters—even if it takes a while for the world to hear it.

With grace, resilience, and an eye for the extraordinary, Yaribey Baro is not just influencing the beauty industry—she’s helping redefine it from the inside out. And as her star continues to rise, one thing is clear: she’s only getting started.
